Last week we elaborated more on the topic of sustainable transport and we shared a few best-of-practice’s. Behind every project and initiative in sustainable transport, there is a group of ambitious people. Alongside ambition, education plays an important role, so projects could evolve into a quality and sustainable solution.
That is why, this week we are bringing you an overview of 4 universities in Croatia, which bring you closer to innovation in the marine industry.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA)
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA) offers bachelor and master degrees in the field of engineering, naval architecture/ boatbuilding, mechatronics and robotics. These courses allow you to tap into the marine industry after graduation.
The faculty offer postgraduate studies as well, in the field of industrial engineering and management, material engineering, mechanical construction calculations, assembly and packaging, advanced production techniques, polymer engineering and marine construction. The mentioned courses allow for specialization within segments important for sustainable development transport.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture offers engineering, naval architecture/ boatbuilding, industrial engineering, electrical engineering and information technology courses. The same courses are available both as bachelor and master, while every course has its postgraduate follow up except naval architecture.
The faculty employs 107 PhD’s and has 11 computational classrooms and 95 laboratories. On the image below, find out what they say on the faculty’s webpage about their scientists.
Faculty of Maritime Studies - Undergraduate Maritime Yacht and Marina Technologies
This course is focused on recreational boating and marine tourism. The first year includes subjects like mathematics, professional English, propulsion and auxiliary yacht systems, but also a very important subject like medicine for seafarers.
The second year is comprehensive, consisting form electrical engineering, maneuvering, through psychology in marine tourism to academic writing.
The last year consists of a variety of subjects, an internship and the thesis. The internship helps the student enter the workfield and is a great opportunity for young people starting their career.
The faculty enrolls 30 students and upon graduation the student receives the title univ. bacc. ing. nav. techn.
Faculty of Engineering in Rijeka
The Faculty of Engineering offers bachelor and master degrees of mechanical and electrical engineering, naval architecture/ boatbuilding and computer science. Every course except computer science has its postgraduate program.
First year students who want to refresh their knowledge can apply for the preparation seminar in mathematics and/or computer science.
Additionally, 3rd or 4th grade high school students and the ones who are in preparation for university, are invited to attend the CAD modeling summer school.
Conclusion
These are only 4 universities within Croatia who help you tap into the world of the marine industry and blue economy and work on sustainable transport. In the following months we will present you a few additional options from the region.
